If one or more of the teeth in your smile has been marred by chips, large cavities or structural damage, it can compromise the health of your whole smile. In a situation like this, many people will consult Gary H. Morikawa, DDS Inc to understand their options for restoring the damaged tooth. One method for doing this is to have all of the tooth enamel replaced by a porcelain crown.

The process starts with your Gary H. Morikawa, DDS Inc dentist examining the tooth and taking some X-rays. It’s important to make sure the dentin, pulp and root of the tooth are healthy and strong.

They will then numb the area with an anesthetic before using a drill to remove all remaining tooth enamel. This leaves behind a small post called an abutment, which will be the foundation of your new crown.

A cast will then be made of the area, and a temporary crown is cemented over the abutment. The cast will then be sent out to a dental lab where your porcelain crown is custom made.

A member of our staff will call you to schedule the second appointment, when your new crown is ready. We will then remove the temporary crown and your permanent crown will be cemented in place.

If you have a severely damaged tooth in your smile, you should call Gary H. Morikawa, DDS Inc’s clinic in Honolulu, Hawaii at 808-949-8866 to explore your cosmetic restoration options.
